  3. Readme File for Installation, Usage, and Distribution

  5. What's new in version 1.31:
  6.    -Minor bug fixes and performance enhancements

  9. 1. Installation for new users
  10.  
  11. Use Winzip or another zip utility to extract the executable file,
  12. FreeRAM XP Pro 1.31.exe, to a SPECIFIC and stable directory of
  13. your choosing. We recommend the DESKTOP, since you'll have easy
  14. access to the file in the future. DO NOT double-click on the file
  15. in Winzip (or the zip extractor you use) to extract, as that will
  16. cause Winzip to unzip to a temporary directory; the file will be
  17. deleted automatically by Windows or Winzip after closing; and
  18. consequently you will not be able to find it again later on.

  20. After successfully unzipping to a directory of your
  21. choosing, just run the executable file (FreeRAM XP Pro 1.31.exe).
  22. Whenever you use FreeRAM XP Pro in the future, it will run from
  23. the executable file, so be sure to keep it in a stable and
  24. easily-accessible location. Again, we recommend the Desktop.

  26. Note that by installing and using our software, you agree to
  27. the distribution guidelines in part 5 of this Readme and the
  28. Legal Notices in part 6 of this readme.

  30. 2. Upgrading from a previous version
  31.  
  32. To upgrade, DO NOT unzip this file to your Windows Temp folder
  33. (such as by clicking on the file in WinZip). Instead, specifically
  34. EXTRACT this file to the previous version's location and DELETE
  35. the old file, thus replacing the old file with the new one. Then
  36. run the new executable file. NOTE: You do NOT need to run the
  37. Uninstall option of the previous version prior to installing the
  38. new version. Doing so may cause your settings to revert to their
  39. defaults.

  41. Note that by installing and using our software, you agree to
  42. the distribution guidelines in part 5 of this Readme and the
  43. Legal Notices in part 6 of this readme.

  45. 3. Uninstalling
  46.  
  47. To UNINSTALL:
  48. In the program window (not from the system tray), click on the
  49. Information menu, which is third from the left under the title
  50. bar (beginning with the File and Settings menus). Then click on
  51. the Uninstall option. After the uninstall process ends, delete
  52. the executable file (program file). Note: You may have to restart
  53. before attempting to delete the program file.

  55. To manually install (not recommended; for advanced users only),
  56. first exit out of FreeRAM XP Pro, and then delete the program
  57. file. Note: You may have to restart to delete the program file.
  58. Next, open the Start Menu and click on Run. Type in regedit
  59. and hit Enter. Delete the key at
  60. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\YourWare Solutions. Then navigate to the
  61. key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  62. and delete the value named FreeRAM XP to complete the uninstall process.

  64. Please note: If you are having trouble finding the program file in
  65. whatever case, try searching your hard drive for "FreeRAM" without
  66. quotes.

  68. 4. Usage
  69.  
  70. There are two main ways to optimize RAM: by pressing Go, or by
  71. configuring FreeRAM XP Pro to operate automatically. You may, of
  72. course, use the two methods together. For more info, see the
  73. Usage Notes under the Information menu and visit the Settings
  74. program window.

  76. In addition, FreeRAM XP Pro can operate in two modes when freeing
  77. RAM: via AutoFree, in which FreeRAM XP Pro automatically balances
  78. speed and memory when optimizing, or you can manually specify
  79. exactly how much RAM you want to free up.

  81. FreeRAM XP Pro also features many more options, functions, and
  82. customizability. For more information, read the Usage Notes
  83. under the Information menu and explore the program Settings
  84. window.

  86. 5. Distribution

  88. We permit and encourage the free distribution and listing of
  89. FreeRAM XP Pro as long as the distributed package remains
  90. complete and unchanged as that officially distributed from
  91. YourWare Solutions (as available from our website); the software
  92. itself is available free and without cost to the end user; the
  93. user is given notice of our company website,
  94. http://www.yourwaresolutions.com; and the user understands that
  95. FreeRAM XP Pro is freeware.
